C21 Wins Sun Sentinel's First Annual BOB (Best-of-Blog) Contest!
March 5, 2010, Matthew Cochrane

We are the champions! We are the champions! How did our favorite conservative website spend its first birthday Wednesday? By winning the Sun-Sentinel’s first annual BOB (Best of Blog) Contest

That's right, Conservative 21 placed first in the “Politics” category, even more amazing after you consider the Sun-Sentinel is based out of one of the most liberal counties in the nation. In these trying times, it might make you smile a bit to know that several liberal bloggers are scratching their heads right now, wondering how a relatively unknown conservative website edged them out in this contest. By my count, there was only one other conservative blog in the running and it didn’t even place in the top ten.

As I said Wednesday, “Conservative 21 has always been a team effort, not any one individual’s labor.” That remains true. Todd, Jamie and Miriam deserve major kudos for all of the hard work they’ve poured into this site. Without their efforts this site would be a shell of its current self.

We also want to thank the Sun-Sentinel for hosting the contest and engaging in the local cyberspace community – a move that I feel will prove to be extraordinarily savvy over time.

Of course, the victory would not have been possible without our loyal readers’ continued support. On Facebook, I received this message in the contest’s waning days while our victory was still in question:

Well, Matt.  I voted everyday like you asked.  It is a cruel irony that the PINAC Blog was ahead.  There is no justice in this world – but then again, that’s why you have your blog.  Congrats on the success this far.

This is indicative of the many emails and messages we received of support from some of our loyal readers. This victory belongs to you as much as it does to us. Please accept our many, many thanks.

Of course, for those who think this victory will go to my head, causing my already-inflated ego to balloon to epic proportions, I can only respond, “Nonsense!”  I will never forget my humble origins on my way to becoming the greatest blogger ever. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must resume my listening to Joe Esposito’s classic 80’s hit, which I now believe was written about me (especially the chorus):

This is WAY cool.  Congratulations to you and all your fellow team members for producing  a class product day after day.  It's obviously a lot of work but people definitely noticed it.   You've earned the right to celebrate . . .

- Underwood

Congrats, but your site is pretty pathetic.

- Carlos Miller (best overall winner)

I never said that.

- c

Uh, thanks Carlos.  The feeling is mutual I assure you!

- Matthew Cochrane

Carlos, apparently it isn't!

- Todd

omg

- c

written about me

I know.  Dry humor, but nevertheless, "pride goes before a fall" especially when it's the CHINO national anthem.

- c

Only LOSERS call other people's sites "pathetic," Carlos, no matter what title you might think you have Mr. Best Overall Winner.  If you don't have something nice to say, you really should just keep it to yourself.

- KareBear

omg x2

- c

Thanks Karen, but honestly, you shouldn't really be at all frustrated. I'm not sure if you had the chance to check out his site or not, but it's a Word Press site. It's like BuddyPress or Facebook, you basically create an account, and start blogging. There's no customization.

By calling our website pathetic, its really kind of ironic. This website is like a Ferrari 360 Modena compared to his, which would be more like a 1996 Chevy Lumina. Not that there's anything wrong with a Chevy Lumina, it gets the job done...

- Todd

Man... how could I have been so oblivious! He's talking about the content! This guy is a hard-core progressive. I just watched a couple of videos on his site, and they're all making fun of Cuban exiles (who are all Republican), and then downplaying the "Che" protestors, etc...

He just doesn't like the fact that we're conservative! hahah...

- Todd

A website that posts conspiracy theories about Obama trying to rig the next election through immigration a Ferrari?  Ha!  And KareBare, is that an alter-ego of one of the editors here?  I think so!  May be c too.  Probably Todd throwing a softball to himself so he could respond to it.  Seriously, you guys are the LOSERS, that's pretty sad.

- Carlos Miller (best overall winner)

Hahah... I'm sure you must have been a blast to hang out with during the party.

- Todd

Are we sure Carlos didn't win the "Best of Jerk" Award?  Does the Sun Sentinel have one for being the most annoying?

- Stephen

I would have liked to have gone to the awards ceremony, but I was just too busy with work and studying (just finished finales for this semester). I'll try to make it next year though.

I did check out the pictures though, and what I got a kick out of was that Carlos was n EVERY SINGLE picture. I'm not sure if they were JUST taking pictures of him because he was the "Best Overall Blog" or if he followed the camer around. I'm kind of hoping for his sake it's #1, but I'm having a feeling it's more like he just followed the camera around, which is kind of emberassing.

I almost hate to tell him that we actually had some Democrats voting for us too!

- Todd

"And KareBare, is that an alter-ego of one of the editors here?  I think so!  May be c too."

If he thinks C is one of our alter ego's he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about.

- Matthew Cochrane

Speaking of, C, you should sign up to get alerts. You're certainly the best commentator, but if you want to be added to the distribution list that e-mails when a new BLOG or ARTICLE is posted, just click the grey "SUBSCRIBE TO ALERTS" button at the very top-right of the banner. You put in your e-mail address and it will include you.,

- Todd

Thanks, Todd.  Maybe c is short for Carlos, but not at as short as Stephen!  Pretty spooky, huh.

- c

makes me wonder how many alter egos at the Carlos site...Eve, Sybil....?

- c

Neal, Bob....

- c

"And KareBare, is that an alter-ego of one of the editors here?"

Nope, Carlos, my name is Karen (as Todd already slipped and said, which is fine btw, Todd) and KareBEAR (not BARE) was an old nickname of mine I chose to use when commenting on here.  I am in no way responsible for what goes on this site and I am definitely NOT an editor.  Sorry to disappoint your crazy theory.  I actually hate writing but I enjoy reading this informative and enlightening blog.  Keep up the great work everyone!

- KareBEAR

"Matthew Cochrane served for more than six years in the United States Navy and is currently a law enforcement officer in South Florida."

Ah I see, law enforcement officer.  I'll keep my eye out for you when I'm out taking pictures.  Ha!  This site makes a lot more sense with your conservative hate now.  What's funny is you guys are hating on me, but had you actually showed up for the awards, I'm sure we'd have a picture together.  I was like a rock star.  Next year, try and get at least in the top ten for best overall.  Ha!  NOT LIKELY!

- Carlos Miller (best overall winner)

I'm happy for you Carlos.  It could've been the kittens.

- c

Carlos, you ARE a Rock Star!!!

- Todd

This is my first time posting on this site, so any other comment attributed to me is not mine.

- (The Real) Carlos Miller

Having said that, I am a liberal, so I probably won't agree with much of what is written here.

But I am also a First Amendment advocate, so I fully support your right to publish your opinions.

And I have no personal beef with you guys, so I wouldn't make those comments.

I have plenty of haters and this impersonator is just one of them.

And if you want, email me the IP address of whoever is making those comments so I can try to match it up with people who have commented on my site before.

- (The Real) Carlos Miller

Hey Carlos, that is really weird. I don't know if we store the IP addresses, but you can probably match it up based on writing style. I noticed in several places he puts "Ha!" a simple upper case H, with a lower case a, followed by a single exclamation mark. Should be easy to point out your guy based on that alone...

- Todd

I have an idea who it may be.

- (The Real) Carlos Miller

I'd love to know when you find out. I've started making a couple of posts on your blog too actually...

- Todd
